- A visual social narrative is a short illustrated story that walks a child through a specific situation before it happens. The child reads it ahead of time, learns what to expect, and arrives at the real thing with familiar context. Social Stories, developed by Carol Gray, are a specific approach with defined criteria. Visual narratives are a broader category.
- StoryRetriever is available on the App Store and Google Play, plus it works in any modern browser: iPad, iPhone, Android, Chromebook, Mac, or PC. Stories are saved offline so they work without WiFi during therapy sessions or on-the-go.
- Yes. The free plan includes 1 created story · 1 shared story · 1 communication board, and 1 child profile. Offline access is included on every plan. Paid family plans start at $4.99/month for unlimited stories and boards. No credit card is required for Free.
- SLPs can share a story directly with a family using a secure link. Families can view stories immediately without an account, or create a free account to save and use stories independently. The SLP retains control over whether families can edit or reshare stories.
- StoryRetriever is designed with COPPA requirements in mind. We collect only what's needed, never sell data, and never show ads. Schools and practices can submit their agreement requirements for review before institutional use. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
- Yes. Schools and practices can request a written organization quote. Staff access and sponsored family access are separate. Review the product walkthrough, purchasing guide, and trust information with your team before rollout.
- Yes. Many parents create stories on their own using our photo and story tools. If your child works with an SLP later, you can share existing stories with them or have them create new ones.
